Bordan Shoe Company, a premier reseller of branded athletic footwear located in Los Angeles, has equipped their rooftop with commercial solar modules to drastically reduce their electricity bills. Owning and operating their own 400,000 square foot full-service warehouse, Bordan provides customers unparalleled access to top brands and product availability in quantities suited to the size of any business.
California has seen some of the highest electricity rate growth in the country, after years of using energy-intensive equipment, Bordan started to incur higher and higher electricity bills. Many businesses have seen their rates more than double – with utilities citing increased grid maintenance costs and aging infrastructure as reasons that rates will continue to climb.
Bordan wanted to take control of their electricity costs by outfitting their rooftop with commercial solar and tasked Revel Energy to design a custom energy solution.
Revel’s skilled engineering team and project managers designed and constructed a 302 kilowatt roof-mounted system that uses 765 commercial solar panels, 387 optimizers and 3 SolarEdge inverters to offset 90% of the electricity the building uses during the day.
Working with the Los Angeles department of water and power, county authorities and code enforcement along the way, the Revel team ensured the project received all necessary certifications and permits for interconnection and permission to operate.
The system is expected to produce an estimated $4.5 million dollars in electricity savings over its 30-year lifespan, increasing the building value by $1.1 million dollars. Taking advantage of incentives and programs like the solar investment tax credit, net energy metering, state and federal bonus depreciation, the system quickly pays for itself.
