Purpose-driven by equality, inclusion and equitability, this non-profit organization saw an opportunity to reduce operating costs while increasing their sustainability through rooftop solar modules.
California has seen some of the highest electricity rate growth in the country, just as this Orange County organization observed as they incurred higher and higher electricity bills. Many businesses have seen their rates doubled in the last few years – while utilities continue to parade a wide variety of reasons like maintenance and infrastructure costs as to why rates will continue to rise.
Seeking to reduce their electricity bills, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County partnered with Revel Energy to design a custom energy solution, designed to fill out as much of the available rooftop space as possible with large-format commercial solar panels.
Revel’s skilled engineering and project management teams designed and constructed a 206 kW rooftop solar system that uses about 460 commercial solar panels. The solar modules are connected by 2 inverters to offset 60% of the electricity the building would typically use during the day.
Working with Santa Ana authorities and code enforcement throughout the process, Revel’s expert team ensured the project received all necessary certifications and permits for efficient interconnection with Southern California Edison to achieve permission to operate.
The system is expected to produce more than $2.6 million dollars in electricity savings over its 30-year lifespan. As a non-profit, new IRA rules provide access to incentives and programs like the solar investment tax credit combined with state and federal bonus depreciation – this rooftop commercial solar solution quickly pays for itself.
