Brea, CA Manufacturer Cuts 85% of their Power Usage with Commercial Solar

West Coast Gasket Co. manufactures specialty gaskets and other metal products at their Brea, California location. This industry leader is using their commercial solar installation to lower its operating costs and electricity usage.

More than just a gasket company, West Coast Gasket uses an array of equipment to manufacturer their products. The Brea, CA company offers stamping, molding, lathe cutting, metal and plastic machining and other specialty services. All of this translates into a hefty electricity bill.

In 2018, they contracted Revel Energy to help them better understand their electricity usage and ultimately lower their electricity costs. “They were using about 370,000 kWh,” explains Ken Fournier, of Revel Energy. “We instantly knew rooftop commercial solar would play a huge roll in lowering their costs.”

The Irvine based Project Developer installed a 207.4 kW commercial solar system. The system produces an estimated 315,010 kWh annually (about $50,000 worth of electricity). In the first year, West Coast Gasket is expected to save 85% of their power usage from SCE.

Nearly 80% of the 47,000 sq. ft. roof was equipped with 680 monocrystalline solar panels. “Monocrystalline solar panels are known for higher efficiency and sleeker aesthetic” according to Energysage, a leading solar blog. Each panel produces 305 watts under ideal conditions.

With Revel’s guidance, West Coast Gasket was able to shift some of its equipment scheduling to lower its overall energy usage. This created extra savings to their operating cost.

With the highest energy rates in the nation, California businesses are rapidly adopting the state’s “green initiative.” Manufacturers willing to make the investment stand to gain a lot in social and monetary capital. Recapturing electricity costs may be one of the last opportunities for businesses to lower expenses.
