Client Feature: Plastics Manufacturing and Commercial Solar

Commercial Solar has helped countless businesses create significant savings, recently Revel Energy has seen growing interest in commercial solar from the plastics manufacturing industry, including this client feature. These manufacturers require significant electricity load for daily operations and have felt rising electricity rates take its toll on their businesses.

Orange County Industrial Plastics (OCIP) looked to commercial solar to help offset their electricity bills, so we quickly got to work designing a system that met the needs of the plastics manufacturer and their building in Anaheim, California.

After some discussion and a site visit, Revel Energy began designing their commercial solar system. Using their utility data, we determine exactly how and when the business uses energy to determine the best solution.

This Orange County plastics manufacturer’s abundant roof space allowed for enough commercial solar panels to fit so that the building offsets 100% of its own electricity use.

Therefore, while the panels generate power as the sun is shining, any extra generation is sent back to their utility through net energy metering (NEM) earning credits to use for energy when the sun is down.

OCIP looks toward a bright future with a smaller carbon footprint and much lower energy costs.

California's Electricity Rate Growth

California businesses experience the highest electricity rate growth in the country. Energy costs continue to rise and the utility-level infrastructure that control the flow of electricity is due for significant upgrades.

As the average cost of industrial and commercial electricity continues in an upward trajectory, businesses look to where they can conserve cash.

Investing in commercial solar for your business is a long-term solution. Drastically reducing electricity bills, increasing cash flow and protecting against a certain future of rising energy rates.

Why are electricity rates increasing? There are several factors at play here. For California IOU’s, maintenance costs of an old, run-down grid continue to mount.

Rising Commercial & Industrial Electricity Rates - California vs US - 2011 Through 2020

California’s electrical infrastructure recently received a D- grade from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The cost of this work is passed through to customers. Read more here about ASCE’s report.

In 2018 California Governor Jerry Brown signed SB100 into effect. Under the bill, it mandates California energy must be at least 50% sourced through renewables by 2025. Further, the state must be 100% by 2045.
